Tottenham Hotspur Football Club, commonly referred to as Spurs, is an English football club located in Tottenham, London, that plays in the Premier League. The club's home stadium is White Hart Lane. Its newly developed training ground is in Bulls Cross on the northern borders of the London Borough of Enfield.

Founded in 1882, Tottenham won the FA Cup for the first time in 1901, making it the only non-League club to do so since the formation of the Football League. Tottenham was the first club in the 20th century to achieve the League and FA Cup Double, winning both competitions in the 1960–61 season. After successfully defending the FA Cup in 1962, in 1963 it became the first British club to win a UEFA club competition – the European Cup Winners' Cup.^[2] In 1967 it won the FA Cup for a third time in the 1960s. In the 1970s Tottenham won the League Cup on two occasions and was the inaugural winner of the UEFA Cup in 1972, becoming the first British club to win two different major European trophies. In the 1980s Spurs won several trophies: the FA Cup twice, FA Community Shield and the UEFA Cup in 1984. In the 1990s the club won the FA Cup and the League Cup. When it won the League Cup once more in 2008, it meant that it had won a major trophy in each of the last six decades – an achievement only matched by Manchester United.

The club's Latin motto is Audere est Facere (lit: "To Dare Is to Do"), and its emblem is a cockerel standing upon a football. The club has a long-standing rivalry with near neighbours Arsenal, which is known as the North London derby.

White Hart Lane

White Hart Lane is an all-seater football stadium in Tottenham, London, UK. Built in 1899, it is the home of Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League and, after numerous renovations, the stadium has a capacity of 36,240.^[1]

Along with housing Tottenham, the stadium, which is known amongst fans as the Lane, has also been selected for England national football matches and England under-21 football matches. White Hart Lane held capacity records in the early 1960s with numbers entering the 70,000s but as seating increased in popularity, the stadium has levelled out to a modest number in relation to other Premier League clubs. The record attendance remains an FA Cup tie on 5 March 1938 against Sunderland with the attendance being recorded at 75,038.
Plans are afoot for Tottenham to move to a new stadium with an estimated capacity of 56,000,^[2] with the new stadium being built on the current site instead of moving from the borough of Haringey. The new stadium has been designed by KSS Design Group, whose other work includes Stamford Bridge.

SEJARAH BERDIRINYA TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR FC

Tottenham Hotspur yang awalnya bernama Hotspur Football Club, didirikan oleh sekelompok siswa tata bahasa dari sekolah Kitab Suci di gereja All Hallows Church pada 1882. Nama Hotspur diduga diberikan sesuai nama Sir Henry Percy, yang juga dijuluki Harry Hotspur dalam karya William Shakespeare, Henry IV bagian pertama. Sir Henry memiliki tanah di kawasan pendirian klub, sehingga mempengaruhi pemilihan nama klub oleh siswa-siswa dari sekolah tata bahasa tersebut. Pada 1884, klub berganti nama menjadi Tottenham Hotspur Football Club and Atheltic Club demi mencegah kesamaan nama dengan klub lain, London Hotspur. Klub beralih status jadi profesional pada 1895 dan lantas mengikuti Southern League.

Pada awalnya warna kaus tim adalah biru tua (navy blue), untuk kemudian berubah lagi menjadi biru muda-putih, merah-biru dan coklat-emas. Terakhir pada musim 1899-1900, mereka baru merubah warna tim menjadi kaus putih-celana biru tua, sebagai penghargaan kepada klub Preston North End, klub Inggris tersukses di masa itu. Dan hingga kini baju putih menjadi baju utama Tottenham sehingga mereka mendapat julukan The Liliwhite yang berarti 'Suci' karena seragam mereka yang utama berwarna putih. Adapun logo klubnya berupa seekor ayam yang berdiri di atas bola karena Sir Henry memiliki banyak ayam aduan yang memiliki watak pemarah. Namun logo klub sudah berubah-ubah hingga sekarang.

Pada tahun 1888, Tottenham memindahkan kandangnya dari Tottenham Marshes ke Northumberland Park dimana klub sudah mulai mengenakan tiket pada penontonnya. Pada tahun 1892, setelah dibujuk oleh Royal Arsenal (nantinya menjadi Arsenal), mereka berupaya untuk masuk dalam keanggotaan Southern League. Namun ditolak ketika mereka menjadi satu-satunya diantara 23 tim pemohon yang tidak mendapatkan suara voting. Mereka kemudian beralih status menjadi profesional sebelum Natal 1895 dan mengupayakan kembali permohonan untuk masuk menjadi anggota Southern League.

Upaya kedua ini akhirnya berhasil. Tahun 1898 Charles Roberts menjadi chairman klub yang nantinya didudukinya sampai tahun 1943. Tahun 1899, Spurs membangun markas barunya di dekat High Road, Tottenham. Stadion itu kemudian dinamai ‘White Hart Lane’, stadion Spurs sampai saat ini



Prestasi Tottenham tak pernah menggembirakan sebelum akhirnya untuk kali pertama sukses menjuarai Divisi Satu musim 1950/51. Para pemain Spurs saat itu antara lain Alf Ramsey, Ronnie Burgess, Ted Ditchburn, Lee Duquemin, Sonny Walters, dan Bill Nicholson. Gaya "push and run" yang diperkenalkan manajer Arthur Rowe membuat Tottenham disegani lawan-lawan dan membuat tim diperhitungkan selama dasawarsa tersebut. Namun, gelar liga kedua Spurs baru diraih persis sepuluh musim kemudian. Salah satu faktor pendukung keberhasilan tersebut, konon karena kondisi lapangan White Hart Lane yang buruk, meski untuk ukuran saat itu.

Pada 1958, Bill Nicholson menjadi manajer dan memulai salah satu periode keemasan klub. Selama 16 tahun berkiprah di bangku teknik tim, Nicholson meraih delapan gelar utama. Ketika Nicholson pensiun, Spurs kehilangan kuku di Liga Primer. Spurs terdegradasi pada musim 1976/77 setelah 27 tahun berlaga di top tier. Fakta buruk ini disusul dengan penjualan kiper andalan Pat Jennings ke rival abadi mereka, Arsenal, yang tentu ditentang keras para fans. Pada 1980-an hingga 2000-an, kekuatan Spurs tetap diperhitungkan di kancah Liga Primer. Tapi, mereka baru sebatas menjadi klub kejutan yang belum benar-benar mampu mendominasi kompetisi sebagai tim dengan mental juara.



Tottenham Hotspur adalah klub Britania Raya (Inggris, Skotlandia, Wales, Irlandia Utara) pertama yang menjuarai kejuaraan Eropa yaitu Piala Winners 1963 setelah menang 5-1 atas Atletico Madrid di Partai Final.
