Tottenham Defender Michael Dawson Signs New Contract
Tottenham Hotspur have announced that club captain Michael Dawson has agreed to put pen to paper on a new three-year deal at White Hart Lane, according to reports in the Mail on Sunday.
The occasional England international has been in north London now since January 2005, with Dawson originally arriving at Tottenham from Championship outfit Nottingham Forest for a fee of £8 million along with wide man Andy Reid.
And in the intervening eight-year period, Dawson has managed to feature in a total of 268 appearances for Spurs in all competitions, scoring ten goals in the process, seven of which came in his 193 Premier League outings for the club.
However, following the appointment of former Chelsea head coach Andre Villas-Boas to take over from previous manager Harry Redknapp in the capital last summer, Dawson’s future at the Lane was placed in doubt when the Portuguese declared his intention to let the 29-year-old leave the club.
And the centre back was on the verge of teaming up with his one-time boss Redknapp at Queens Park Rangers, only for an injury crisis at the back to lead to the collapse of that deal, with Dawson then regaining his place in the first team, and the captaincy too, under Villas-Boas.
